Block Arcade in Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD is over one hundred years old. Displaying Victorian-era architecture, which is quite magnificent, as it was built during a boom period and showing Victoria’s wealth from gold mining and other ventures. There are regular tours throughout the Block, as it is affectionately called, taking in iconic landmarks such as the Hopetoun Tea Rooms and Haigh’s Chocolates (referred to elsewhere on JMN PIXELS). The hyperlink above takes you to the home page, on which there is a very small rotating slideshow which shows an image of the central circular court. The images below are of the mosaic design on that circular court floor.
A visit to the Block is worthwhile — for its history, for the beautiful architecture and heritage colour scheme, for the shops and cafes, and then purely just for its ambience, a taste of luxury from a bygone era. I can take lots of that!
